Indivisible MI District 11 volunteers are fighting for our voices to be heard so that our U.S. Congressperson represents our values. We organize to defend democracy, to awaken the community, and to mobilize. We unite with groups across the district, and in the surrounding areas, to reach the largest audience with our calls to action … demanding representation! We know that collectively, in our community and across the nation, we are making a difference.
Beyond resisting, our plan is to awaken civic engagement; to offer learning experiences and neighborhood discussions. Almost no one has the time and head space to keep up with issues being thrown at us every day, and from every direction. So that you can go to the polls on November 6, 2018 as an informed citizen, Indivisible MI D11 has launched a learning curriculum designed to help us all understand the issues we care about.
The Awaken Program is not a political endorsement, it is a learning journey intended to raise awareness, stimulate meaningful dialogues, and get us all talking to each other. The first draft of the Awaken Program has been released and includes the following topics and events in various stages of planning:
- Framing the Narrative Workshop (3-hr workshop based on Lakoff’s work)
- Protecting our Environment – Line 5
- Politics 101
- Stress Management for Activists
- Fake News, Trust, Transparency and Freedom of Speech
- The Future of Education
- Candidate Forums (separate sessions for Democratic and Republican candidates)
- Heath care
- Summer Film Fest
- Jobs & Economy
- The Joy of Voting!
All events will have an element on voting (who, what, where, when and why – and how to overcome barriers to registering and voting).
If you have questions or would like to participate in the planning for any of these events, please email awaken@indivisibleMI11.org.
